Ever since I was little, I've always been afraid of spiders. Even doing this contest, I had a hard time just looking at references. As I continued researching and sketching, I found myself scared less and less. I think doing this contest actually helped me with my fear, kind of like a 'fear therapy.'
Although I am still scared of spiders, I am somewhat more confident around them. Surprisingly, I had a blast making this sculpture. I enjoyed every second of it, and I am proud of the outcome. I'm not scared of it one bit, but everyone that sees it is terrified of it!
This sculpture is made out of polymer clay, and some details are painted with acrylic paint. It sits on a wood base, and the little hairs are made from paintbrushes. I used jewelry chains for the chain locking the doors. The green slime around his mouth is a mixture of string, glaze, and acrylic paint. For the dirt, I used dirt from my backyard and super glued it to the base.
This sculpture took approximately 16 hours in all to make.
That's amazing! I could never do something like that, even tiny spiders scare me to death. And when I see pictures of them I have sort of a feeling as if a spider would scuttle over my body all day. But your sculpture looks so great, especially the mouth!
Thanks Its funny because when I was looking at pictures of spiders....I realized I think they have cute faces when they are close up! I think I'm going crazy! xD
This is simply just amazing! I love the busted basement doors, the texture of the spider and the amazing detail of the mouth/eyes and wood! The dirt is just the perfect touch for this scene. Great Job & best of luck ^-^
